📘 Grade 9 → Unit 1: Introducing Economics · Unit 2: Basic Economic Problems and Economic Systems
Definition of economics, micro vs macro, scarcity, choice, opportunity cost, economic systems (capitalism, socialism, mixed).
English: Economics is the study of how scarce resources are allocated to satisfy unlimited wants.
Opportunity cost = the next best alternative forgone. Scarcity forces choice.
Economic systems answer: What to produce? How to produce? For whom to produce?
📘 Grade 9 → Unit 5: Introduction to Production and Cost
Basic production and cost concepts.
📗 Grade 10 → Unit 3: Theories of Production and Cost
Production function, short-run vs long-run, total/average/marginal product, fixed and variable costs, ATC, AVC, MC.
English: Short run: at least one factor fixed. Long run: all factors variable.
Law of diminishing returns: adding more variable input (labour) eventually lowers marginal product.
MC intersects ATC and AVC at their minimum points.
Law of diminishing returns፡ ተጨማሪ labour ሲጨመር በመጨረሻ marginal product ይቀንሳል።
“MC cuts ATC at the bottom of ATC.” Fixed costs do not change with output in the short run.
“Perfect competition = many + identical. Monopoly = one + unique. Oligopoly = few + interdependent.”

Y = C + I + G + (X − M).
GDP = C + I + G + (X − M)
Y = C + I + G + (X − M)።
“GDP counts only final goods within the country’s borders. GNP counts by citizenship.”

Commercial banks accept deposits and give loans. Central bank (NBE in Ethiopia) controls money supply and regulates banks.
የገንዘብ ተግባራት፡ medium of exchange፣ store of value፣ unit of account።

Economic development = growth + improvement in living standards, education, health, equity.
HDI includes life expectancy, education, and income.
Economic growth = real GDP መጨመር። HDI = life expectancy + education + income።
“Growth is necessary but not sufficient for development.” Look at HDI, not only GDP.
